An East Rockaway girl on the autism spectrum is being hailed a hero after saving her uncle.
Gabriella Smith was playing at the park when her uncle hit his head on playground equipment and knocked himself unconscious.
The second-grade student at Rhame Avenue Elementary School grabbed her uncle's phone from his pocket and called her dad, who made sure help came.
Gabriella Smith's father, Kenny Smith, says he's very proud of her.
"She had a very quick response, and her uncle is very lucky she did what she did," Kenny Smith says.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman handed Gabriella Smith a special stuffed lion and a citation in honor of her courage.
