Namjoshi, medical director of intestinal rehabilitation and nutrition support at Stanford Children's Health. "It's unacceptable." But pediatricians are experts o

Choosing your family doctor: The different types of primary care providers - MercyOne

Image
Your primary care provider is more than someone you visit once a year for a physical – they're your trusted health care partner and help navigate your well-being throughout the different stages of life. "Primary care providers are like the quarterback of the medical team," said Patrick Courtney, MD , a family medicine provider at MercyOne North Iowa Family Medicine Residency . "We collaborate with the specialists while also keeping the whole of your care in mind." There are three main primary care specialties – pediatrics, family medicine and internal medicine. Pediatrics The main factor setting pediatrics apart from family medicine and internal medicine is the age of patients. While both family medicine and internal medicine providers see adults, pediatrics is focused on children. "Pediatricians train more in-depth for different diseases and conditions that affect children and adolescents," said Sara Schutte-Schenck, DO , who

Image
Did you know you could have osteoporosis and not even realize it until you break a bone? Osteoporosis affects almost 20 percent of women aged 50 and over and nearly 5 percent of men.  May is Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month. Eight Things Parents Wish People Knew about Their Child with Autism - Woodlands Online

Image
SPRING, TX -- As Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month draws to a close, BlueSprig Pediatrics spoke with three of their employees, Alicia, Natalie and Sara who all have kids with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to find out what they wanted their friends and family members to know about their child with autism. These moms created a list of eight key things they wanted their family and friends to know about their child with autism. • Accept our children as they are . The common theme among these three moms is that they wanted their friends and family to accept their children just as they are and to realize that no two children with autism are the same. The reason we refer to it as an autistic spectrum is because everyone is different, and not all children engage in what you might consider 'classic' autistic behavior. For example, while many people think children with autism do not like to engage in social interactions, they often want to be social, they just lack the skills needed
